Leadership & Guidance

The Associated Talmud Torahs provides leadership and guidance to its schools through its partnership with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, its principals meetings, its development and support of community Hebrew Schools, and the ATT’s board of professional review.

Federation Partnership

The ATT is the community’s voice in dealing with Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago regarding educational agencies and general issues that affect the entire Orthodox community. In partnership with the JUF/JFMC, the ATT distributes nearly $2.5 million annually to Orthodox day schools, Hebrew schools, camps, and special educational programs and guarantees an equal amount in emergency loans benefiting our schools. The ATT serves on numerous committees that benefit both our schools and our children.  Activities of ATT involvement include, but are not limited to, administering loan guarantees, scholarship committees, advising special Federation committees that deal with allocation, and accrediting the post-high school programs in Israel in order to receive Federation scholarship dollars.

Principals Meetings/Networking

A key leadership role of the ATT is the work it does with principals and administrators of our schools. ATT facilitates the exchange of ideas as well as the creation of educational programs that support our affiliated institutions.  The ATT also works with the principals on an individual basis, offering advice, support, and encouragement for their programs.  Recently the ATT has also started to involve the lay leadership of our schools and has worked with them in identifying areas that need improvement within their institutions.

Development/Support of Community Hebrew Schools

At the heart of the ATT mission is outreach to the general Jewish community.  With the paucity of Torah institutions serving the Jewish population of the suburbs, the ATT has instituted the Melvin I. Eisenberg Institute (MIE Torah High) for Judaic Studies and the Jewish Family Experience (JFE) for elementary age children and their parents.  Sources of great pride are the many individuals who have graduated these outreach programs who now teach in day schools affiliated with the ATT.

For further information, please contact Rabbi Yehuda Polstein, Director, at 773-706-6020 or mietorahhigh@att.org or visit MIE’s website at http://www.mietorahhigh.com/  and JFE’s website at http://www.jewishfamilyexp.org/about.html.

Conflict Resolution

ATT maintains a Board of Professional Review to which differences between teachers and schools, and schools and other schools can be referred.  This process has been critical in promoting harmony within the entire system while guaranteeing the right and privileges of all of its constituencies. The ATT is also a forum for the resolution of issues between schools and parents.  Parents and/or schools that need outside arbitration in negotiating a problem regularly turn to the ATT for assistance.
